Meet Alex, The Kitty – rescued from the street of Chow Kit when she was merely 3 weeks old. Today she is a beautiful blooming 3 month-old kitten still looking for a home in our adoption network. Alex nearly lost her eye due to a lethal virus that attacked her eye. Today, post surgery – she’s a wonderful companion and loving kitty waiting for an owner.

Then there’s Guthrie, The Puppy – rescued in Kepong by a nice lady that took him, his 8 siblings and his mother in before some ‘not-so-loving-to-animals’ people abused them! Today we have 5 of these puppies still for adoption.

Malaysia’s 365 Day Dog & Cat Calendars are back!

The 2013 edition of these endearing calendars will be published in late October 2012 and will be on sale by November and throughout the following year. We are making some changes to this year’s calendar. One of the most obvious changes would be that the calendars won’t have dates, but will be daily inspirational messages that, along with the pet pictures, will uplift you at any time. We decided to do this as, with our last two calendars that were published in 2006 and 2007, owners of pets felt bad that they had to tear off the pages – they preferred to keep the calendar intact so that they could look at it every day.

So we realised – this calendar is different. It’s not something that you look at to remember dates or appointments, but really a calendar that you to see to remember your precious pet. And that’s what we want it to be – something you talk about all year round with your family and friends, and something you treasure.

So the calendar is open for entries. Owners can submit their dog or cat pictures to us online or post it to us.

Someone, somewhere out there, needs a pet - help us connect them to the ones waiting for a home.

A Heart-To-Heart Message from Us at Independent Pet Rescuers, Malaysia by Sherrina K

Every week we spend close to RM 650 ringgit boarding our rescued animals at a vet’s.

We really don't have a choice.  First of all, it's hard to find people who will open their homes to foster an abandoned or stray animal.

If we choose to leave the animal on the streets any longer, we know they will be facing brutality.

 So, after we rescue the animals we put them in a half-way place, like the vet’s, so that we can start the rehabilitation and re-homing process.

Then the people we send our emails, SMS, whatsapp, etc sometimes read the information without doing the simplest and cheapest thing they can do - which is to forward the message or link to as many people as possible. We know this for a fact, because most weeks no one turns up at our adoption booth.  How is this possible, when every week before the Saturdays adoptions I send out at least 250 - 300 messages (and Maxis and Whatsapp will vouch for that)?

 So I'm not asking you to send out as many messages as I do, I'm asking you to just do what you can. Send what you can. Help where you can. Give what you can.

 Here are our some simple ideas of what you can do:

 1. At the end of all your emails - put out blog address there. Someone is bound to click it.

 2. Just before the Saturday adoption, put on your Facebook or Twitter for a few hours information about the adoptions.

 3. Use whatsapp and send out, for free, as many messages as you can while you're waiting to get your hair done, wait for your food, stand in line at the cinemas, etc.

4. Here’s our E-Leaflet attached, just forward that to all people you know.

5. Print out our E-Leaflet and paste it on your notice boards in offices, church, club houses, organizations, associations, etc

At the end of the day if only one adopter turns up on that Saturday, that's one puppy or cat in a new home forever.

And what did this cost you - absolutely nothing, maybe just your time. Tell yourself every week you're going to take five minutes just to do this.  Just to help.  Sending such positivity out into the world does you good, as well as helping those that can't speak or ask for themselves.

Please don’t leave us disheartened - help to boost our morale and to shine some light for our puppies and cats.
